You could always volunteer to be on the Abuse Committee next year. That just requires the usual moderator-y stuff: keep your trap shut about confidential things, know what the TOS say, don't play favorites, yadda yadda.
Most of the committees and volunteer pools either don't require specific skills or are happy to train you. There are a couple like Legal that are a little different, but most of these are overjoyed to see anybody interested in taking on thankless tasks fascinating and important work. ;)

Tag wrangling and testing are probably the easiest to drop in and out of without making some huge, long-term commitment though.
