Sorry, I was being really unclear there. What struck me as odd in the AfterEllen quote that she was talking about "fantasy pairings" as opposed to "ship fics". "Ship fics" didn't really sound weird to me, and I agree with your interpretation of the term. But I'd never heard of "fantasy pairings". Now I've looked it up like I should have done in the first place, so I've been educated a bit. (TBH, I was pretty upset when I found her name in the AfterEllen interview. I remember feeling validated and delighted when that interview first appeared, and realizing that this person I couldn't manage to identify with was in there representing me made me flip a little.)
