If she's from the parts of fandom it sounds like, she probably doesn't know much about m/m slash or use the term 'slash', to be honest. Not for homophobic reasons; there just isn't that much overlap or interest. (As I see people have said elsewhere already.) The whole m/m by women thing is going to be kind of confusing for fans who are into fic as an extension of lesbian media and lesbian culture, which is a lot of who turns up on AfterEllen.
