The reason why I decided to treat her involvement with the L-Word website as probably not as "fannish" as she claims is that she created the company Fandom Entertainment right around the time she launched the site. It was part of her "portfolio" from the beginning. The Fandom Entertainment website still claims that "Fandom Entertainment is the publisher of L-word.com, MyFandoms.com, and many more" (emphasis mine), and I notice that copyright notice at the bottom of the about page reads "@ L-word.com All rights reserved" in the old webarchive version and "All rights reserved @ 2011 Fandom Entertainment" on the current page. This kind of juggling with notices and her obfuscating language about who owns the site (the company from the very beginning) and who creates the content doesn't scream "fan" to me in the way I understand it. Neither does her language in the Sharon Bowers interview, particularly the way she keeps going on about the software ("It is these stories that lead to development of both of our fan fiction collections and the software that powers them").
She may or may not be a fan of the show, read fic around it, etc. I just can't seem to find any indications that she did anything besides create a company-owned site in her own interests. However, I've never been in L-Word fandom, so I may be missing something she contributed or misinterpreting something. If anyone from L-Word fandom can confirm that she does indeed have fannish street cred and that's why AfterEllen.com talked to her (not because she shows up at the top of a search for "L-Word fanfic"), I'll edit that in right away.
EDIT: I think I didn't qualify my use of "fannish" or my interpretation of Jacky Abromitis' involvement in fandom very well in this reply. More on that here, sorry for the confusion.
