I definitely agree about SurveyFail, I kept watching it in gaping horror, thinking, "Okay, here's what I DON'T do if I ever study fandom again!" And yeah, I could understand people being wary of researchers--it's such a shame, because I think fandom is full of really positive, exciting things to study and learn from and could illuminate so much about human interactions and imagination, but...I understand people getting really annoyed at the "I am anthropologist from distant shores, bringing you primitive people baubles" tone of a lot of the study out there. More transparency is definitely the way to go, and your page is a good beginning.
